Introduction to Dressmaking - Sew A Top, Dress or Tunic

This in-person workshop will take place 10am-3.30. I can't wait to welcome you to my fully equipped sewing studio located at Manor Road, Horbury, WF4 6HH.

During this hands-on workshop, Sam will guide you through the entire process of creating your own unique top, tunic or dress helping you to master new sewing techniques & gain valuable skills. This is an ideal workshop for anyone who is keen to build their confidence in cutting out and sewing garments and learning how to make clothes. You will learn basic pattern reading skills, how to apply bias binding, cuffs & topstitching.

Suitable for confident beginners and experienced sewers alike. (You must be able to thread a sewing machine & sew in a straight line & made a few things before - see my beginner classes if you need to learn the basics)

Choose from a Tee, Tunic or Dress

The Tee is a simple, slightly cropped, easy cut can be paired with just about anything & it looks great half tucked.

The Tunic hits just above the knee, and the hem dips a bit longer in the back. Can be worn with leggings as a tunic or above knee dress, perfect for all seasons.

The Midi hits mid-calf, and the hem is slightly longer in the back than in the front.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

The class includes expert instruction, use of the machines, tools etc plus refreshments. There will be a short break for lunch which can be bought nearby or bring along with you.

YOU NEED TO BRING

• 1 to 3 metres of lightweight woven fabric, such as cotton lawn, viscose or chambray, nothing too thick or heavy & avoid jersey/stretch fabric.

• (Please check size chart below for info for how much fabric to bring. If you aren’t sure, please contact me) I recommend that you wash your fabric prior to the class

• Matching thread

• If you would prefer to bring your own machine, just let me know & ensure that you have all the power cable, pedal & all the bits & pieces that came with it.

• Glasses if you need them - don't forget them!

SKILL LEVEL

Beginner

Suitable for adults who have never made a garment before but can thread up a sewing machine & sew in a straight line. As well as those who may have previous experience and wish to use the class to gain confidence or new inspiration.

SIZING & FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

This is meant to be an oversized loose fitting garment, if you feel that you don't fit within the size range please contact me on the email below & we can discuss your options. All fabric requirements are based on 150cm width of dressmaking fabric.

Size 1: 29-33" Bust, 23-27" Waist, 33-37" Hip. Top 1 metre, Tunic1.3 m, Dress 1.5 m

Size 2:33-38" Bust, 27-32" Waist, 37-42" Hip. Top 1 metre, Tunic 1.5m, Dress 1.7m

Size 3 : 33-45" Bust, 32-39" Waist, 42-49" Hip. Top 1.5 metres, Tunic 2.3.m, Dress 2.7m

Size 4 :45-52" Bust, 39-46" Waist, 49-56" Hip. Top 1.6 metres, Tunic 2.4m, Dress 2.8m

Size 5: 52-58" Bust, 46-52" Waist, 56-62" Hip. Top 1.6 metres, Tunic 2.4m, Dress 2.8m

*Please note - the studio is accessed via stairs & the toilets are downstairs. There is free off street parking outside the studio.

I try to calculate how long a workshop will be and plan to finish each garment in the allocated time but this isn’t always possible, if you are unable to finish in the workshop time I'll make sure you are confident with your garment to be finished at home.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Payment in full is required at the time of booking to secure your place. If you find that you can't attend 7 days or more before the start of your class you will receive a full refund. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds for cancellations with less than 1 weeks notice.
